What to Expect from Psychological Testing
Psychological testing can provide a clearer understanding of how you or your child thinks, learns, feels, or behaves. Whether you have questions about ADHD, anxiety, autism, learning differences, cognitive abilities, or emotional and behavioral concerns, a psychological evaluation can provide clarity. Psychological assessments can help identify strengths and areas of difficulty while offering recommendations tailored to your needs.
Who Should Consider Psychological Testing?
Psychological testing can be helpful for children, adolescents, and adults who are looking for answers about the way they experience the world. This may include individuals who have concerns about attention, memory, organization, executive functioning, learning, or academic performance, or have concerns about ADHD, autism, or another neurodevelopmental condition. Testing can also help those seeking to understand their cognitive strengths and weaknesses while experiencing emotional, behavioral, or interpersonal difficulties.
What Does Psychological Testing Evaluate?
At Restoration Psychology, each psychological evaluation is tailored to the individual and the questions that bring them to testing. Depending on your concerns, an evaluation may assess attention and executive functioning, cognitive abilities, learning and academic skills, emotional and behavioral functioning, personality, or symptoms associated with conditions such as ADHD or autism
Types of Psychological Testing
- ADHD Testing: Psychological testing can help evaluate attention, executive functioning, impulsivity, and other factors associated with ADHD.
- Autism Testing: An autism evaluation can help assess social communication, behavioral patterns, and other characteristics associated with autism.
- Cognitive Testing: Cognitive assessment can provide information about areas such as reasoning, memory, processing speed, and problem-solving.
- Learning & Academic Testing: Testing can help identify learning strengths and difficulties that may affect academic performance.
- Emotional & Behavioral Testing: Assessment can provide information about emotional functioning, behavior, personality, and other concerns.
How Long Does Psychological Testing Take?
Most psychological evaluations take place over two to three testing days, depending on the type and scope of the evaluation. Testing is then followed by a feedback session to review the results. During the feedback session, the evaluator will explain the findings, discuss diagnoses when appropriate, and review recommendations.
What Does a Psychological Testing Report Include?
Following the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive report that includes relevant background and history, the questions being addressed, and what assessment measures were used. We will review test results and their interpretation, diagnostic implications, and individualized recommendations. The report brings these findings together to provide a clear understanding of your strengths, areas of difficulty, and potential areas for support.
